Eagle's Nest Treehouse Farmstay

from top of StaircaseThe Eagle's Nest Treehouse is unique; an incredible farmstay in the middle of a 400 acre private ranch, with complete seclusion  and many of the comforts of home in the middle of a forest.

Farmstay: Intended as a farm stay, visitors are welcome to observe ranch operations, hike the private network of forest trails and can prepare food on either a barbecue or fire ring located at the foot of the treehouse. Farm animals include ducks, cows, goats and the livestock guardian dogs who protect them. Visitors rave over its wild pasture and brush land, redwood, pine and bay laurel forests, and 1.5 miles of Salmon Creek. Hikers are unlikely to see another human, but may very well spot many California flora and fauna. Visitors can hear owls hooting at night, doves cooing in the morning and sometimes distant fog horns. On stormy winter nights, we can even sometimes hear the distant roar of the ocean, crashing upon the rocky cliffs, north of Bodega Bay.

History:
The original treehouse was built  over 20 years ago by the Mulholland Brothers (famous purveyors of luxury leather goods), who used it as a secluded office, 60' up in the trees. In 2000, it was featured in House & Garden Magazine, and in 2016, The Treehouse Guys crew filmed a segment about it for their TV show. At that time, they told us the supports were slowly strangling the tree due to the out-dated mounting system. So we hired one of their associates, Ken Huck, to move it and attach it between two stronger trees with modern mountings that do not harm the trees. We then added some creature comforts, including a bathroom with a shower, heat, electricity and running water.

Battle with Regulations: After a brief listing on Airbnb and Hipcamp, with the visitors waxing ecstatically in the guest book about the experiences of their stays, the treehouse was unfortunately determined by the County of Somoma to be in violation of its permitting regulations and we had to cease all operations. After a five year pioneering effort and tremendous expense to bring the treehouse up to residential standards, a permit was finally obtained in May, 2021 and we were allowed to reopen. We are now accepting bookings, either through Hipcamp.com or AirBNB.

Features: The resulting masterpiece that is this treehouse, reflects Ken's amazing artistry and craftsmanship, with new floor, ceiling and wood trim that he milled from an enormous 1,000-year-old redwood log discovered on the ranch, that had fallen about 100 years ago. Access to the treehouse is via a spiral staircase and then across a 40' suspension bridge, leading to a large wrap-around deck. The treehouse has plenty of light, with floor to ceiling windows looking out over the forest. Even its bathroom shower has two walls of floor to ceiling glass.
